Bosnia and Herzegovina still have an outside chance of automatic qualification for Euro 2024. They are fourth in Group J and host Portugal who are top and already assured of qualification. With three group games to go, the Bosnians are four points behind second placed Slovakia and two adrift of Luxembourg in third. Those two countries meet on the same day as this match and a draw wouldn't be a bad result for Bosnia and Herzegovina. They still have to go to Luxembourg and host Slovakia. Automatic qualification will be difficult, especially if this game is lost. However, they are guaranteed a play-off position due to their Nations League results. Bosnia won 2-0 at Liechtenstein on Friday but they are yet to earn a point against the top three teams in this group. Home form has seen them beat Liechtenstein and Iceland but lose 2-0 to Luxembourg. The reverse fixture against Portugal ended in a 3-0 defeat.
Portugal have already clinched their place in the Euro 2024 finals. They have won all seven of their qualifiers and on Friday beat Slovakia 3-2 at home with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice. That took their goalscoring tally to 27 in seven games. They had kept six clean sheets before conceding against Slovakia. Portugal have won seven games in a row since losing to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup. Ten of their last 11 away Euro qualifiers have been won. The big question is will they rest players now that qualification has been achieved? They do have a strong squad and should still have enough to win this match.
