It was all square at the first game between Blackburn and Birmingham, with the 2-2 draw setting up an eagerly anticipated FA Cup Round of 32 replay at St. Andrew’s. Birmingham City have Jordan James to thank, as the 18 year old’s late strike ensured a home replay for his side. While the draw was surely a morale booster, the hosts are not in the best of forms, having lost five of their last seven games across all competitions, conceding in all of those. In fact, they have kept a single clean sheet in their last twelve games, with their defence being in poor shape at the moment. Birmingham have not been at their toughest at St. Andrew’s of late, with just one win in six there, with four of those seeing Over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.
Blackburn Rovers saw their lead against Birmingham evaporate at the last minute of added time and will have to endure an away replay. It was their second draw in succession, while they beat Norwich City at Carrow Road in the previous FA Cup round. The visitors are however winless in the last three games they have played after that cup win, conceding seven goals in the process. On the bright side, they have been efficient on the road of late, having won three of their last six away games, including beating Norwich twice and Ajax in a friendly. They have also won their last two matchups at St. Andrew’s against Birmingham, having found the net in four of their last five visits there.
