Austrian Bundesliga third-place finishers Austria Vienna host Turkish giants Fenerbahce at the Franz Horr Stadium with a spot in the Europa League group stages on the line. Despite all the talk of a financial crisis and the need to sell foreign players, Fenerbahce have bounced back strongly to start the 2022/23 season. After a 4-1 aggregate victory over FC Slovacko in the previous round and a last gasp goal to salvage a point in a wild 3-3 away draw to open the season, the Yellow Canaries responded by smashing Kasimpasa 6-0 away from home in their most recent outing. It’s now four matches unbeaten for the 19-time Super Lig champions as they look to tune out the noise around the club and focus simply on the task at hand.
On the other side, Austria Vienna has suffered a slow start to the new Bundesliga campaign, taking only four points from the first four matches. They were, however, able to win their most recent match 2-1, despite having a player sent off in the first half. The Violets struggles to start the season can be attributed to their sub-standard level of defense. Vienna were lucky to walk away with the three points in their previous match, as they gave up four clear cut chances to their opponents while only managing to create three for themselves. Fenerbahce should fancy their chances to get on the scoresheet here as Vienna has now conceded 12 clear cut chances through the first four league matches of the new season.
