Augsburg v Paderborn Betting Tips [27 May 2020]

A 3-0 away victory over Schalke last Sunday helped Augsburg to overcome their four-game losing streak, after which they are now ranked twelfth in the Bundesliga, six points above the relegation zone which currently contains their opponents, bottom-of-the table Paderborn. The home side has a chance here of inching their way up the league .. 

Augsburg's current home record is nothing to write home about, as they have only managed two wins in six games, although it may be fair to think they could not have done any better as three of the matches were against heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchegladbach and SC Freiburg. Overall, Augsburg have won five of thirteen home games in the league, all being against teams in the bottom half of the league. Following their impressive game over eighth-placed Schalke, it is should, therefore,  be fairly easy for them to deal with Paderborn. 

There are seven matches to the end of the season and with a last gasp effort, Padderborn could realistically play in the relegation playoff with only a six point gap between them and  16th spot. Paderborn go into this game after a 1-1 draw at home to Hoffenheim, a game that saw them concede in the fourth minute but equalize five minutes later. The visitors have only managed 18 points since their return to the Bundesliga, but they remain without a league victory in eight games, though the last two have been drawn. They carry the league's worst losing record including four and the second-lowest total goal difference. Steffen Baumgart's men have also lost four of six games against Augsburg, and it would take a water-proof strategy for them to walk out of this match with a point. This is especially in the knowledge that the team has failed to score in half of their last ten games on the road.  

Paderborn appeared deflated in their last league game and it is unlikely that they will have recovered enough to pose a major threat to the rejuvenated Augsburg. The host's strong performance at Schalke proved they have all it takes for a strong season finish and they will be sure to set on this path with a win over the bottom side. We expect nothing short of a victory for the hosts, and possibly more than 1.5 goals for Augsburg.
