Only two matches remain in the Spanish La Liga as we enter matchday 37 with Atletico Madrid hosting Sevilla as the two teams battle for third-place. Atleti currently sit third on 67 points and hold a one point lead over fourth-place Sevilla with 66. Diego Simone’s side are set to finish the season trophyless after winning the league crown last season and while they look set to secure another season of Champions League football, fans will surely be a bit disappointed overall. Their opponents, Sevilla, are looking to improve on a fourth-place finish, where they have finished the last two years, and can leapfrog Atletico with a win at the Wanda Metropolitana. The hosts are coming off a 2-0 away win against Elche in their last match while the visitors drew 0-0 at home to Mallorca, their third consecutive draw.
Sevilla have struggled in the second-half of the season which has seen their league position drop after initially looking like they might challenge for the title. Los Nervionenses have now only picked up two wins in their last 10 league matches as they end the season on a whimper. Sevilla could see their winless run continue in this match as they have struggled to pick up consistent wins when playing away from home. They have proven themselves tough to beat with only three losses on their travels, but their inability to turn draws into wins has ultimately held them back. Atletico should be able to take advantage of their opponents recent slump as Los Colchoneros have been a strong home team all season. 12 wins, four draws and only two defeats in the league season with a +17 goal differential gives Atletico the second best home record in La Liga, with only champions Real Madrid bettering them. We’re going to back Atletico Madrid to get the three points here and wrap up a third-place finish. Atleti have been excellent at home this season and Sevilla’s struggles finding the net away could be on full display here against a tough Atletico defense. This is an excellent price considering both teams' records and still see some value in backing the hosts even though this could be a tight match. We like Diego Simeone’s men to take this one 1-0 or 2-0.
