Fast-rising Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC is 90 minutes away from being declared African champions. They will host South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final return leg this Sunday. We have the prediction for the match.
This tie is well poised at 1-1 from the first leg played in South Africa a week back. Walid el Karti scored the stoppage-time equalizer, giving Pyramids a mental advantage as they host the return leg.
Pyramids have never been to such heights, though they finished second in the Confederations Cup five years ago. In the semis, they saw off another South African side, Orlando Pirates. Here they have the first chance at a trophy outside Egyptian borders.
While Pyramids are making their Champions League final debut, this will be the third for Sundowns. On their first attempt in 2001, they finished second. They went back to work, and 15 years later, they were at the final again, this time lifting it.
Sundowns come into this game with continental pedigree and a champion’s swagger. They will, however, look to avoid lapses like the one that allowed Pyramids to score an equalizer in the first leg.
Sundowns have already won their domestic title and are looking to add this to the list.
First-time finalists Pyramids have proven to be one of the toughest to face. Their technical ability seems above a side playing in the final for the first time, and we can’t rule out a shocker in Cairo. What we can expect, though, is a cautious approach from both teams, just as seen in the first leg.
While Pyramids have tended to go all-out in home Champions League matches, they may have to rethink that when facing Sundowns. Our prediction for Pyramids FC v Mamelodi Sundowns is for under 2.5 goals.
