Arsenal will look to build on the feel-good factor of a win, but face a tough home match at the Emirates against an in-form Everton side in the Premier League. While Arsenal start this round 10th in the standings with 34 points, Everton are just a place above with 36 points.
Arsenal come into this match on the back of a thumping 4-0 win over Newcastle United that ended their run of four straight draws. Although Mikel Arteta’s side has lost only once in their last nine league games, six of those being draws. In fact, Arsenal have drawn 50% of their 26 league games this season, winning just seven along the way. The spate of draws has been prominent at home as well, with Arsenal drawing five of 13 league games at this venue. The goodwill of that 4-0 win over Newcastle has to be build upon, as that remains only the second win for Arsenal in their last nine league home matches.
Everton travel here on the back of a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, their second in a row and third in their last five league games. The ‘Toffees’ have lost only once in their last 11 Premier League matches, which came against Manchester City. This sequence saw Everton win six matches, that included impressive wins against Chelsea, Palace and creditable draws at Arsenal and Manchester United. One big concern for manager Carlo Ancelotti is his side’s away form. Only a third of Everton’s points this season – 12 of 36 – have come away from home. Everton, though, have been improving in the recent matches. The ‘Toffees’ have lost only once in their last five Premier League trips, winning and drawing two each.
Arsenal heaved a big sigh of relief with a big and timely win over Newcastle United. A top-four finish is still seven points adrift and the Gunners are prioritising a winning run ahead of anything else. Everton, though, won’t be an easy opponent. Going by how they have been approaching their matches, Everton won’t surprise many if they return with at least one point. We are tipping the goals market, though, where both teams scoring appeals to us.
