Arsenal will hope to bounce back from the midweek Europa League elimination to keep pressing their claims for Premier League title when they host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Ahead of this round, the hosts are top of the Premier League standings with 66 points from 27 matches while Palace are 12th with 27 points. Arsenal are coming off a heart-breaking loss in the Europa League where Sporting dumped them out on penalties in the round of 16 on Thursday. That could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Mikel Arteta’s men as they continue their charge towards the Premier League title. With five points separating them from nearest challengers Manchester City, Arsenal can extend that as City don’t play this weekend. That optimism is definitely not misplaced as the Gunners have won their last five league matches in a row, three with a clean sheet. Although they have one of the best records at home this season, there is still a concerns as Arsenal have failed to win three of their last six home league matches.
Palace would dearly gobble any points as they currently find themselves in the bottom-half rumble. Teams from 12th to 20th are separated by just five points and Palace are at the top of that tree. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to Brighton last matchday which made it three straight losses in a row. More than that, they are winless in 12 competitive matches, drawing five and losing seven, so the visitors have probably lost touch with how to win. Little wonder then that manager Patrick Vieira has been sacked. What’s worse – they are without a goal in four league matches and are struggling to create scoring chances. With just one point from their last five away league matches, there is a bit of inevitability about Palace’s matches when they travel.
