Uruguay are looking to add to their rich collection of titles the 47th Copa America championship and on Saturday they’ll be up against Argentina in their first match of the 2021 competition. Argentina go to the game second in Group A with one point from their draw with Chile. That game presented yet another clash that Argentina’s shortages in defence were exposed and it could have been worse, had Arturo Vidal scored with a 57th minute penalty. They have only one clean sheet in their last five matches and in the remaining four, both sides have scored. Once again, like it was the case in the earlier two matches, they scored first but didn’t win.
Uruguay, just like Argentina, will be seeking a return to winning ways going to this game and they will have the advantage of being fresher as this is their first game of the tournament. Apart from just seeking a win, Uruguay will want to address another matter in attack – they haven’t scored in their last three matches, one ending in a loss. They have just one win in their last five matches – a 3-0 victory over Colombia. Edison Cavani scored the opener in that game, and in the next, against Brazil, he was sent off and later handed a two-match ban for a bad tackle on Richarlison. He is set to return and Uruguay will definitely be happy to have the Manchester United man back to help address their woes in attack.
Argentina’s struggles in defence will be tested to the core in this game when Uruguay welcome Cavani back. The Manchester United forward is expected to start alongside Luis Suarez and they’ll want to stretch a defence that has managed just one clean sheet in five. On the other end, Lionel Messi has been in great form and will be a favorite to score here as well. With the two nations parading their best attackers, both sides to score looks solid here.
