Seventh seed Andrey Rublev will on Tuesday attempt to end second seed Novak Djokovic’s unbeaten run on grass when they battle at Wimbledon. The winner of this quarterfinal tie will next face either eighth-seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Roman Safiullin in the semifinals. Andrey Rublev has advanced to this round for the first time in six appearances in the competition. The Russian had only once made it to the second week of competition at the All England Club. This was in 2021 when he made it to the fourth round. He has now made it to the last eight at all four Grand Slams and will hope he finally manages to go beyond. To set up this match with Djokovic, the current world number seven, prevailed in a five-set thriller with Alexander Bublik. He has now won eight of the nine matches he has played on grass which is the most he has ever won in a season. Rublev will now hope this form allows him to win only his second match against Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic has defeated Rublev three times in the four previous meetings between them. The latest was in this very round on his way to winning the Australian Open earlier this season. None of the four matches however has been played on grass but this will not be a concern for Djokovic. The current world number two has not lost a match on grass since 2018 and is on a 32-match winning streak. In his last match, he dropped his first set of the championship but defeated 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz in four. Djokovic has won the last four Wimbledon editions and is targeting winning a joint record fifth successive title. Which if he does, will tie Roger Federer as the two most successful Men’s players here with eight titles each. Djokovic will return back to world number one status if he wins the tournament.
Our prediction for Andrey Rublev v Novak Djokovic is for Djokovic to win 3-0. Only one of the four matches between these two players has not been decided by straight sets. Djokovic has also been dominant in his matches at Wimbledon while Rublev has seemed to struggle with each passing round.
