Taylor Fritz is aiming to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time in his career. The American is the 11th seed and he faces the unseeded Alex Molcan. Fritz has had a good year with victory at Indian Wells and on grass at Eastbourne last week. Last year saw him reach the third round here and only once has he got to the fourth round of a Grand Slam event. That was in Australia this year. He’s had wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Alastair Gray so far at this year’s Wimbledon. He’s yet to drop a set and with the winner of this match up against Jack Sock or Jason Kubler (both qualifiers), a quarter final is possible.
Alex Molcan is ranked 51st in the world and that’s mainly due to his clay court form. He’s reached two finals this year on that surface, in Marrakech and then Lyon. His grass court record isn’t so hot and his only Wimbledon was last year when losing in the third qualifying round. He’ll be grateful that Tallon Griekspoor is out of the tournament. He beat Molcan in both Mallorca and Halle as he was warming up for his first time in the Wimbledon main draw. He’s had wins over Pedro Martinez in four sets (losing the first) and then Marcos Giron in straight sets. This run equals his best Grand Slam performance of a third round in the 2021 US Open. A fourth round doesn’t look likely, go for Fritz to win this.
