West Ham United will hope to return to winning ways when they host Tottenham in their next league game, on Tuesday. Tottenham Hotspur are three points outside the top four while West Ham United are12 points behind the Conference League slot. While West Ham are strong contenders for the Europa League title, they are seriously struggling domestically. They’ll need a big push to actualize qualification for Europe based on their league finish. At the moment, that isn’t going to plan, and especially after their 4-3 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday. West Ham came from a goal down to lead 3-1, but all that crumbled under the weight of Newcastle’s second half comeback. That game was a reminder of the Hammers’ inconsistency this season. At one point recently they superbly thrashed Freiburg 5-0, then failed to win the subsequent two games. They come here with one win in five matches, and five losses in the last 10. Seven of their last 10 matches had over 2.5 goals, while they managed just one clean sheet in the 10.
Tottenham Hotspur boosted their Champions League hopes with a 2-1 home win over Luton Town on Saturday. That was their third win in four matches and a good recovery from the 3-0 loss at Fulham earlier. At 56 points, they are just three behind fourth placed Aston Villa. It could work for them well, having a game in hand on Villa. Being 12 points ahead of sixth placed Manchester United means their target for Europe may come to fruition soon. One area for improvement, however, is in defence. Spurs managed just one clean sheet in their last 10 matches. In five of those 10 matches, they conceded more than a goal. Nine of their last 10 matches, as a result, ended in over 2.5 goals. They’ve struggled away from home, winning just once in the last five league games on the road. The five matches were however high-scoring, all producing over 2.5 goals.
There’s rarely a shortage of goals whenever these two sides are playing. This was witnessed in their Saturday outings as well as in most of their recent meetings. With the scorers the two sides parade, we definitely expect to see goals here. In terms of recent form, however, Tottenham edges West Ham United. Therefore, we will back the West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur game to end in over 2.5 goals and Tottenham Hotspur win.
