Manchester City will travel to the AMEX on Thursday, to face Brighton, seeking to climb back to the Premier League summit. Brighton haven't had their dream season and start this game placed 10th while City, with a game in hand are third. Brighton are struggling to secure another spot in Europe after taking part in the Europa League this season. Roberto de Zerbi’s side is currently six points off the closest spot for Europe. With their quality, Brighton will be justified to imagine they can make at least a top six finish. It is their limping run in recent matches that’s a concern. Brighton are winless in their last four matches. The last time out, they had to fight out a 1-1 draw with struggling Burnley. In their last four matches, they lost twice, both against the top two sides. Two wins in 10 matches will not be the best run to take to a game against title contenders. They have just four wins in their last 17 league matches. Brighton have however been great at home. Their loss to Arsenal in the last home game was the first in 13 league games there. It hasn’t been great defensively for them at home though; Brighton have managed just two clean sheets in 15 home league matches.
Manchester City could be four points behind Arsenal and/or Liverpool by the time they take to the pitch. The top two sides are a point above them, and play days before City. In a tight title race, they won’t want to drop any points here. City edged Brighton 2-1 in the reverse fixture, extending their unbeaten run against their hosts to five matches. They won four of the five meetings and will hope for the same here. In the run up to this game, City secured their place in the FA Cup final after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley. That was a great outcome, right after their elimination from the Champions League by Real Madrid. In the league, they have a 17-match unbeaten run to defend, having won 13 of those. The most recent of those was a 5-1 home win over Luton Town. In their last seven away league matches, City only failed to win once – the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in March. They however have just one clean sheet in nine away league matches.
Manchester City are on a great run coming into this game and will be favorites despite playing away from home. Their major concern will be the few clean sheets they’ve been keeping. Brighton will want to take advantage of this defensive frailty, though they aren’t any better themselves. With a great home run, the hosts will feel they can get something from this game. However, facing Manchester City is a daunting task and it may not end well for Brighton. Our prediction for Brighton v Manchester City is for Manchester City to win and both teams scoring.
