Matchweek 22 of the Italian Serie A will conclude on Monday when second-placed Inter Milan travel South to Genoa to face relegation-threatened UC Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Inter are second in the standings with 43 points and Sampdoria are on the opposite end of the table, second from bottom with 10 points and nine away from safety. The hosts have struggled all season and have managed just two wins and lost 15 matches which is the division’s highest tally. Their defence is the second-worst in the league with 36 goals conceded which translates to roughly 1.7 goals a game. They have also been the least potent side this season with only 10 goals scored in 21 matches. This terrible run has already led to a coaching change with Marco Giampaolo becoming the third coaching casualty of the season in October. He was replaced by former Inter player Dejan Stankovic and under the Serb, the I Blucerchiati have picked up eight points to move off bottom place. Their two wins have come while away from home. Samp are currently on a run of five games without a win but come into this tie with Inter off the back of a 2-2 draw with Monza that halted a four-game losing streak. It was only the second time in the season that Sampdoria scored two goals in a game which in turn ended a four-game scoreless run. Manolo Gabbiadini grabbed both goals and they will be hoping he keeps this form against Inter. For this match, they will be without midfielder Mehdi Leris due to suspension.
Inter Milan are nowhere close to the struggles being experienced by Sampdoria. However, they are way short of their title ambitions, being 13 points behind runaway league leaders Napoli. The Nerazzurri have won the second-most number of games this season (14) and are the second-most potent side in the league with 41 goals scored. Their record of six losses is, however, the worst tally in the top six, and they are now forced to concentrate on securing their place in the top four. Inter sit just two points above fourth-placed Roma. They come into this round on the back of three successive wins, one of which - against Atalanta (1-0) - secured passage to the semifinals of the Coppa Italia. Last time out, a Lautaro Martinez goal in the first half, secured a 1-0 derby win over rivals AC Milan. Inter have won four of their last five games across all competitions and have kept three clean sheets in the process, including in the last two matches. They will however continue to be without forward Joaquin Correa for the second game in a row due to injury. The Argentine is the only player out for the team.
This should be an easy one for Inter, taking into account the clear difference in fortunes with Sampdoria as well as the fact that they have scored six goals without reply in their last two meetings. In this Sampdoria v Inter Milan game, we predict an away win with a side bet of over 2.5 goals.
