Poland’s final game before their Euro 2020 opener with Slovakia will see them host Iceland in Poznan in an international friendly. Poland drew 1-1 with Russia last week and remain with just one win in six matches while Iceland recorded a 1-0 victory over the lowly Faroe Islands earlier this week for their second win in three matches. Both these nations have been in better form in recent years but their current form isn’t great and particularly for Poland they will be keen to put on a performance ahead of another major tournament.
Poland are ranked 21st by FIFA and came through qualifying by topping Group G winning eight of their 10 matches. However, they made a mixed start to their World Cup qualifying campaign back in March with a win, a draw, and a defeat to start. Their 1-1 draw with Russia leaves them with just one victory in six but at home, their recent record is a lot stronger. Poland have won three of their last five home games, keeping a clean sheet in each of those three victories and they have won two of their last three home friendlies. One of which seen them defeat Finland 5-1 who are ranked two places below Iceland back in October of last year.
Iceland have lost 10 of their last 13 matches but their form has somewhat improved in recent months with two wins from their last three games. Iceland won’t compete at the Euros this summer having been eliminated by Hungary in the play-offs towards the end of last year. The visitors did, however, end their seven-game losing run with a win in qualifying for the World Cup back in March. Iceland defeated Liechtenstein 4-1 after back-to-back defeats to Germany (3-0) and Armenia (2-0) in what was a slow start for the Vikings.
