Norwich host Wigan at the Carrow Road for the second round of the English Championship. Things didn’t go to plan for the Canaries in their first game after their (usual) immediate return from the top flight, losing 1-0 to Cardiff, in a tense game with one red card for each team. Dean Smith’s side suffered their third defeat in three, and the early positive vibes from their pre season campaign are now gone. It is now three games without a goal for the hosts, who have also failed to score in six of their last seven competitive games. Norwich can at least boast a good tradition against Wigan, against whom they have only lost once in their past eight home games.
The Latics kicked off the new Championship campaign in a scoreless draw against Preston. It is now two scoreless draws in the last three for Wigan, who have however enjoyed an unbeaten preseason, winning three of the four friendlies they played. It will surely be a tough test for the side who got promoted from League 1 last year, yet their impressive away form could offer encouragement, with Wigan losing just once in their last twelve games on the road. They have also scored in ten of those twelve games, while four of their last six away encounters against Norwich have seen both teams get on the score sheet.
