Merseyside will come to a stall on Monday night as the famous derby between Liverpool and Everton will be played in the Premier League at Anfield Stadium. Liverpool are 10th in the league standings with 29 points from 20 matches while Everton are 18th and in the relegation zone with 18 points from 21 matches. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are struggling for impact recently and find themselves lagging behind in the top-six qualification race, let alone the title hunt. The Reds are beaten 3-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last match making it three losses and a draw from their last four matches in the Premier League. Goals have become a concern for the hosts who have now gone three league games without a strike. At least on the results front, there is comfort when they play at Anfield as Liverpool have been defeated only once in ten home league matches this season. To add to that, Liverpool have lost just one of their last 15 derbies at home to Everton winning 14 and drawing 10.
That record will be a daunting one to breach, but Everton will travel confidently after starting life under Sean Dyche with a surprise 1-0 win over Arsenal. That result halted a winless run of ten matches in all competitions for the Toffees, where they have lost eight times. Even in the league, Everton have lost six of their last seven matches before the win against Arsenal, so they would be doubly keen to continue the momentum of that victory. That would need the visitors rise above their poor away record as Everton haven’t won in their last six away league games, drawing two and losing four. Sean Dyche doesn’t boast of a positive record against Liverpool, losing ten of his previous 14 games in charge against them although one of the two wins was a famous 1-0 victory for Burnley at this venue that halted Liverpool’s incredible run of unbeaten 68-games in the competition.
