The first phase of the Scottish Premiership kicks off this weekend and among matches set for Saturday, Hearts will host Celtic at Tynecastle with about 5000 home fans allowed in. Hearts haven’t won a lot of their matches against Celtic – they have no win in the last nine and will be hoping to tap on the freshness of a new season and presence of home fans here. They’ve had a good start to the campaign so far, with four wins in the League Cup, a run of form they’ll be looking to carry here, though they face a much tougher opponent. Hearts are coming from a 1-0 win over Inverness in the League Cup and their only loss in the last 11 matches, was against Sunderland in a preseason friendly.
Celtic have done well in matches against Hearts and will hope for more of the same here as new manager Ange Postecoglou seeks a first win following a tough start at his new workstation. The Australian’s first two competitive matches ended in disappointment after being dumped out of the Champions League by Danish side Midtjylland. In the two matches against Midtjylland, Celtic were the first to score but failed to win, drawing 1-1 at home before losing 2-1 away. Their defending has been questionable and they really have issues in the goalkeeping department. In their last four matches, they have no clean sheet, and have conceded 10 goals, though they’ve scored in each of their last three matches, a total of four goals. They go to this game without a win in the last five matches.
Celtic are still trying to get on track, and with a new man in charge. So far, the season hasn’t been kind to them and the biggest issues they have are in defence. They get to face a Hearts side that has kicked off well and had no midweek activity so will be well rested too. With home fans in and a good run of form, this seems like a good time for Hearts to break the Celtic dominance. Go for a home win here.
