Girona will face their biggest test of the season so far when they play host to Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday. The hosts currently sit atop the league standings while the visitors are right behind them in second. Girona have made a dream start to the 2023-24 league season. After drawing their first match of the campaign to Real Sociedad, they have been flawless. The White and Reds beat Villareal 2-1 in midweek to bring up their sixth consecutive league win. Not only are they leading the table, but they are also one of just two sides that are still unbeaten this season. Girona have scored 18 and conceded eight, which is an identical record to Barcelona. While they are the outsiders here, it is worth noting that the hosts did beat this opponent 4-2 at this venue last season. Can they continue their excellent run with back-to-back wins over Madrid? 

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also made a solid start to their season. They beat Las Palmas 2-0 at home last week, which was their sixth win in seven league games so far. That was also the only away match they have lost this season, but they did lose three of their last four on the road last season as well, including that 4-2 loss against this opponent. The Meringues have scored 13 goals to date, with Jude Bellingham bagging five of those, and he is currently tied for first in the top goal scorer standings. The visitors are the favourites here but will know this is far from an easy trip to Catalonia. 

While Real Madrid are often expected to win almost every match they play, we cannot write off Girona in this one. The hosts lead the league standings and are the highest-scoring side in the top flight this term. This match could go either way, and we are expecting a handful of goals.
