Turkish giants Galatasaray will welcome Danish side Copenhagen in their opening Group A UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday. These two sides will also play Bayern Munich and Manchester United in the group. With the caliber of opponents ahead, there’s all the reasons these two will want to start strongly. Galatasaray negotiated their way through the qualification matches to return to this stage after three years out. Heading into this game Gala are coming from a 4-2 win over Samsunspor. That was their 16th competitive unbeaten game, winning 14 of them. The hosts have actually won each of their last six matches and have scored two or more in five straight. Galatasaray have however managed just two clean sheets in five matches. Both teams have scored in three of their last four matches. Playing at home, they have eight straight wins and a 10-game unbeaten run that has nine wins.
For the second straight season, Copenhagen are in the Champions League group stage. Just like Galatasaray, the Danish champions had to get here through the qualifiers. They have dropped five points so far this season but are top of the Danish league with 19 points. Two of the dropped points were in their most recent games, a 2-2 draw with Nordsjaelland. In their recent matches, they’ve been shaky, winning just one of their last four matches. They’ve also lost once in those four matches and kept one clean sheet. Having conceded more than a goal in two of their last four matches, Copenhagen will also want to tighten defensively. The visitors will have reason to be proud of their away form. In the last 10 away matches, they are unbeaten, with eight wins.
These two sides have faced off twice before, with either side winning once, when playing at home. Galatasaray will be hoping it plays out that way here. They have the right profile to go for three points in this game. The Danish side hasn’t won as much as Galatasaray and comes here as underdogs. Our prediction for Galatasaray v Copenhagen is for Galatasaray to win.
