Derby take on Ipswich at Pride Park for matchday 39 of the English League One. The hosts are just barely holding on to a playoff spot as they sit sixth in the standings with a record of 18 wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats giving them 64 points. A recent downturn in form for the Rams means that seventh-place Peterborough are only a point behind while eighth-place Wycombe trail by three points. Derby is coming off back-to-back defeats following a pair of 2-0 losses suffered against Fleetwood and, most recently, Peterborough. The string of defeats means that Derby has only registered one win in their last five matches. They haven’t been able to keep out the goals either, as manager Paul Warne’s side has now given up two goals in each of the last five matches. Derby have to be at their absolute best here as they come up against one of the most in-form teams in the league in Ipswich.
Ipswich are on a tremendous run of form which has seen the Tractor Boys shoot up to third in the standings with a record of 21 wins, 12 draws and only four losses. This puts the visitors on a total of 75 points and fans will have dreams of chasing down second-place Sheffield Wednesday, who they trail by four points, to earn an automatic promotion spot to the Championship. Ipswich’s last match resulted in a 2-0 home win for the promotion hopefuls, the latest in a string of six straight victories for the club. Ipswich are in impenetrable defensive form at the moment and have now kept seven consecutive clean sheets. The last time they conceded a goal was on February 11th. Not only has the defense been rock solid but Ipswich’s attack has also been firing on all cylinders. The visitors have only once failed to score more than one goal on their current six match winning streak and twice have struck for four goals.
This is pretty terrible timing for Derby to be facing off against Ipswich while the visitors will surely be smelling blood in the water. Ipswich have looked unstoppable in the last six weeks and have a serious shot at chasing down Sheffield Wednesday with a game in hand and with the form they are currently on. They’ll first have to overcome a desperate Derby side in what is likely to be a tricky match. However, the visitors have the talent required to keep their winning run going while extending the losing streak for a stuttering Derby side. Our Derby vs Ipswich Town prediction: Ipswich to win
