Celta play host to Real Madrid for the second round of the Spanish LaLiga. Celta should be disappointed after only drawing against Espanyol in the opener, where they took a two-goal lead only to see their opponents level the scoring thanks to a 97th penalty kick. While it’s too early for alarm bells to be ringing, it was the fifth consecutive winless game for the Galicians, who did not win in any of their preparation friendlies, and have only beaten Elche in their last seven games. They are strong at the Balaidos however, where they have lost just two of their last eleven games, including one against Real Madrid. A loss against Los Blancos has become a regular occurrence in recent years, with Celta losing all of their last four home games against Real, managing however to score in fourteen consecutive games against them.
Real Madrid found it tougher than anticipated in their opener against Almeria. The European champions struggled early on, conceding as early as the 6th minute, yet managed to overturn the deficit, thanks to goals by Lucas and a stunning free-kick by David Alaba. This win stretched the Merenjes’ unbeaten run to six games, while they have only lost once in LaLiga in their last ten games. Andelotti’s side are full of confidence and they should be grand favourites to take an away win against a team that they relish meeting. They are unbeaten in seven away games against Celta, winning seven of them.
