The 2023/24 Premier League campaign enters matchday six with 11th-placed Brentford playing host to 18th-place Everton. It’s been somewhat of a slow start to the season for Brentford following their top-half finish last year. The Bees are coming off their first defeat of the season after a 1-0 away loss to Newcastle last weekend. While they’ve only lost once, Brentford fans might be disappointed as their team dropped points in some very winnable fixtures. Home draws against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace in recent weeks have Thomas Frank’s men sitting 11th with one victory, three draws and one defeat. They have a good shot at getting their second league win on the board against an Everton side that have stumbled out of the gates. Brentford were superb at the Gtech Community Stadium last season but have started this term with three consecutive draws.
After escaping relegation last season by the skin of their teeth, fans will have been hoping for a positive start to the new campaign. Unfortunately for them, Everton are displaying many of the problems from last season that saw them almost drop down to the Championship. Their most apparent problem has been the severe lack of attacking intent. The Toffees have scored just twice in their five matches this season, both strikes of which came against Sheffield United. They’ve now been blanked in four of their five Premier League fixtures following a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal last weekend. Everton have managed to get only a single point on the board in a 2-2 away draw with Sheffield just prior to the international break. Other than that, the Merseyside club have suffered defeat in their other four league appearances.
We’re expecting an improved response from Brentford here as they look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season. Everton continue to struggle to find the back of the net as their profligacy in front of goal looks to have carried over from the previous campaign. Brentford showed remarkable consistency at the Gtech Community Stadium last season with 10 wins and an unbeaten record against bottom-half sides. They even managed some famous results such as a 1-0 win over Man City and a 3-1 victory over Liverpool. Back the Bees at home to get the three points. Our Brentford vs Everton prediction is for Brentford to win.
