Bosnia & Herzegovina side Borac Banja Luka has a tough task trying to overturn a 3-1 away loss to CFR Cluj in the return leg of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The hosts conceded two early goals in the first leg and will be hoping to avoid a repeat while going for early goals themselves. They need two, and it will call for a massive improvement from their last three matches, where they’ve scored just once. The first leg game was their first since concluding their domestic season, which also ended on a low as they lost to Sarajevo on post match penalties in the Bosnian Cup back in May. At home, they have no loss in the last 14 matches and have won each of the last nine, while in the last 10, they’ve scored two or more in eight.
CFR Cluj failed to build on their first leg win over Borac, losing their Super Cup game on penalties to Universitatea Craiova. That was the first time they failed to win in their last five competitive matches and the second time they failed to score in their last 10 matches. Whereas Borac have played just three Champions League matches before, CFR Cluj have been around for a while and are more experienced in Europe, having even played in the group stages. They head to this game with two wins in three Champions League matches. This will be Cluj’s third game this season and no fitness issues were seen in their match against Borac. They will be looking to extend their fine away record that sees them unbeaten in the last six going into this game. Cluj have won each of the last three away games, and scored in each of the last five.
In their recent matches, both these sides have registered great runs in attack. We expect the two sides to play an open game, with CFR Cluj the clear favorites and Borac chasing the game. This is an assurance of goals and with the returns in attack, back both teams to score.
