Blackpool host Huddersfield Town at Bloomfield Road for a relegation six-pointer in this rescheduled matchday 28 fixture in the English Championship. Both teams will be desperate for points as they each currently occupy one of the three relegation spots. Blackpool find themselves sitting 23rd with a record of six wins, eight draws and 14 defeats putting them on 26 points and trailing 21st-place Cardiff by three points. Blackpool’s last outing resulted in a 3-0 away loss to Middlesbrough and was their third loss in a row. The Tangerines are on an awful run of just one win in their last 13 matches across all competitions and have only managed to score one goal in their last three matches. Blackpool haven’t fared much better when playing in front of their home support this season as they’ve only won three of 15 at Bloomfield Road while suffering seven defeats. They did, however, record an excellent 4-1 victory over Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in their last home match.
On the other side is Huddersfield Town who sit just ahead of Blackpool in the league table. The Terriers occupy the 22nd position in the Championship with 27 points from their 28 matches. A positive result would go a long way here as, despite trailing Cardiff by two points, Huddersfield have a two games in hand advantage over the Bluebirds. The visitors are coming off a 1-1 draw with QPR on Saturday, a result which pushed Huddersfield’s winless run to five matches following. The Terriers have been simply dreadful away from home this season and hold the division’s worst away record with only nine points from 13 trips. With that being said, Huddersfield have shown some improvement on that front in recent weeks and have actually won two of their last five away matches in the Championship. With Blackpool having one of the division's worst home records, the visitors will be confident of taking three points from this one.
While both teams are struggling at the moment, Huddersfield are arguably in slightly better form thanks to their recent uptick in away results. Blackpool haven’t recorded a league victory since October of 2022 and are in serious danger of digging themselves a hole they will not be able to recover from if they don’t start to turn things around. This is a huge match for both sides given their league positioning and the visitors would probably be the more content of the two teams should the match end in a draw. This is likely to be a cagey affair but we like Huddersfield to walk away with a result on England’s northwest coast. Our Blackpool vs Huddersfield Town prediction: Huddersfield draw double chance
