Matchday 27 in the Spanish La Liga sees Atletico Madrid looking to solidify their Champions League spot when they host Real Betis at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano. Atletico are likely out of the title race as they trail leaders Barcelona by a massive 17 points with 12 matches left in the campaign. However, Los Colchoneros still have a lot on the line as they look to fight off the rest of the table and secure their position in next season’s Champions League group stage. Atleti currently find themselves sitting third in the table with a record of 15 wins, six draws and five defeats putting them on 51 points. This gives them a three point lead over fourth-place Real Sociedad and a six point lead over their opponents today. Diego Simeone’s men have been on a fine run of form. They’ve extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches in the league, a run which includes seven wins overall during that time as well as a current streak of three straight. Atletico Madrid’s last match was a 3-0 home win over Valencia in a matchup where they rarely looked troubled.
Real Betis come into this match after having put an end to a three match winless run with a 1-0 home win over mid-table Mallorca. Los Verdiblancos had previously suffered a heavy 5-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Manchester United to eliminate them from the Europa League. Betis sits fifth in the standings with a points total of 45 thanks to a record of 13 wins, six draws and seven defeats. While they had previously gone four matches without a win the team can at least be encouraged by their recent La Liga form which has seen Betis win four and draw two of the last six domestic encounters. A major factor working against the visitors in this match is the growing list of unavailable players. Real Betis will be without a number of first-team regulars including key creative players Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales, workhorse midfielder and captain Andres Guardado, as well as defenders Luiz Felipe and Abner Vinicius.Atletico Madrid are on an excellent run of form and look to be coming up against this Real Betis side at the perfect time. Given the injuries and suspensions in the Betis squad, it’s difficult to imagine them securing a result, especially with how much of their attacking threat will be missing without Fekir and Canales. Despite heavy odds, we still see some value in backing the hosts to get the three points here. Our Atletico Madrid vs Real Betis prediction: Atletico Madrid to win
