The Welsh Premier League side The New Saints will have their task cut out as they attempt to overturn a 3-1 deficit in the second-leg of the Champions League first round. This match will be played at the Park Hall stadium on Tuesday. The first leg saw the Welsh fall down to a 3-1 defeat as a frantic first-half settled the game. The New Saints went down 2-0 within the first 15 minutes and despite a strike from Declan McManus couldn’t stop their loss. This came on the back of two straight wins for the Welsh side, both coming in the league. The New Saints have never gone past the third round but any chance of doing that this time will depend on overturning the first-leg deficit. The form of Declan McManus would be key to their chances as he has scored in nine straight matches.
Haecken have never reached the qualifying rounds of the competition before and this is a great chance to do just that. The Swedish side has won the domestic title last season and are second in the standings this term. They followed up the first-leg victory with a 4-2 league win over the weekend. That extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven matches, winning six and drawing one. They would be concerned about their away form though, having won just two of their last six away games in all competitions. That included two draws and two defeats, which may give some hope to the home team although even a draw could be enough for the Swedish visitors.
