THE FAVOURITES :
The French team are the title holders and the favourites for the tournament. The French players, taken by Tony Parker and Nicolas Batum have had good preparation with Rudy Gobert. Also, the public will be behind les Blues as a part of the competition takes place in France. The other favourite of the competition is obviously Spain. But the champions of 2011 will be missing stars such as Marc Gasol, Ricky Rubio and Serge Ibaka. Neverthess Pau Gasol will be ever present
THE OUTSIDERS :
Serbia, runners up in the World Cup in 2014 and runners up of European Championships in 2009 will be stiff competition for any team. This year however, the Serbs have fallen into a difficult group harbouring Spain, Turkey and Italy, top nations in Europe. The other outsiders are Lithuania. Basketball is religiously followed there and there is no doubt that supporters will be at the Champoionships on mass to support their team who were runners up in EuroBasket 2013.
THE SURPRISES :
The first surprise of this year's competition could be Croatia. The Croats will be playing a part of the competition at home and can therefore count on their home support. Nevertheless, coming third place in 1995 is not much to shout about. The other team that could be a surprise is Greece. The Greeks, who had finished sixth in the last European Championships coumld exit in their group stage but the road is long to the final. Furthermore, the last surprise could be Italy. The Italians can count on their stars of the NBA Andrea Bargnani, Marco Belinelli, Gigi Datome and Danilo Gallinari. But being in the group of death, the Azzura Squad will have a difficulty time in scoring many.
