Winner prediction: who do we expect to win the PSL?

South Africa winner prediction

Mamelodi Sundowns won their eighth consecutive league title in the 2024-25 season as they finished with a 12-point lead over second-place Orlando Pirates. Their tally of 73 points equalled the club’s highest ever tally in a season and it marked their 15th league championship all time, giving the Pretoria-based club more than three times the next closest.

Sundowns have been the dominant force in South African football for the last decade and we don’t envision that changing in the 2025-26 campaign. They possess the most devastating attack in the division with the likes of Ribeiro, Rayners and Sales (who combined for 38 league goals last term) and generally have excellent quality all across the pitch.

Orlando Pirates will do their best to mount a legitimate challenge and Kaizer Chiefs will hope to be back in contention this year, but the title is Sundowns’ to lose. So If you want to start making your PSL predictions today here are our thought. The 2025-26 South African PSL winner: Orlando Pirates champions!

The impact of PSL statistics on your predictions

Before betting on the PSL, you should know that statistics are crucial to the success of a sports bet. The figures vary depending on the teams, players or matches you want to bet on, but they have and will always have a major impact on which bets to favour (or avoid).

To illustrate our point, let's take the fact that last year, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were the two teams that most often validated the 'Win by 2 goals' bet in the PSL. If you want to bet on one of these two clubs, there is a good chance that this bet is worth trying. On the contrary, Marumo Gallants and Orbit College were at the bottom of the Win by 2 goals rankings, and it was better to avoid this bet when one of these two teams was playing.

It is therefore very important to consult the key figures and statistics before placing any bets on the PSL. That is why we strongly encourage you to consult our table at the top of this page. How to make good predictions on PSL matches?

PSL odds: how to use them to bet with bookmakers?

There is another important aspect to consider when making good football predictions: the odds posted online by bookmakers are essential to any betting strategy. These odds directly reflect the probabilities of an event occurring or not occurring. They are, of course, taken into account in the algorithm implemented by Wincomparator.

In order to make a reliable PSL prediction, you need to ask yourself this question: are the odds really interesting? You simply have to ask yourself whether the winnings on offer in the event of a successful bet are worth making a bet with a bookmaker.

  • To illustrate this point, let's take the example of Kaizer Chiefs travelling to Magesi, and you don't see Magesi winning. However, betting sites are offering odds of 1.63 for a Kaizer Chiefs victory. Using the formula (1/odds) x 100, we can estimate that the bookmakers calculate the probability of a Kaizer Chiefs victory at 61.3%, which is quite high. If you think this figure is too high, it is obviously better not to bet on it. Why risk your money if you are only going to win £6.30 (for a £10 stake)?
  • Let's take the opposite case. Imagine that you see an 'easy' victory for Orlando Pirates at Orbit College. And you notice that the bookmakers are offering odds of 2.12 for this outcome (which gives a probability of 47.1%). In this case, the odds seem worth a try, as your winnings will be high compared to the risk taken.

This is mainly why (but not only) it is always necessary to take into account the PSL odds offered by online bookmakers when making predictions on the South African League.

How to make PSL predictions

Making accurate football predictions for PSL matches requires a combination of research, analysis, and a keen understanding of the game (of course, a bit of luck helps too). Here are our suggestions to help you make informed SA PSL predictions:

1. Understand the context in Premier Soccer League

We believe it's vital to know the context of a Premier Soccer League match before making a prediction. Don't bet with your eyes closed, simply on the prestige of a team or its history in South African Premier Soccer League.

You need to ask yourself the right questions. Is the team you expect to win in better shape than its opponents? Is there a history between the two clubs that could lead to a tense soccer match? Is the schedule so full that the coach may decide to rotate the team? Is a major player absent for the occasion?

All these questions need to be considered before betting on PSL. At Wincomparator, we do our homework to minimize the risk of losing bets. It's always a good idea to do the work on your side, whatever championship you're aiming for.

2. Place simple bets

On our site, we offer different types of football predictions: 1X2 (match result), BTTS (both teams to score), and Over/Under (+/- 2.5 goals). It's no coincidence that these are the bets that give bookmakers the best odds of winning.

Once again this season, we advise you to opt for simple predictions, and not to overdo the random combinations.

Goalscorer bets are good alternatives, but the odds offered seem less attractive than in the past. The same applies to other types of bets, such as half-time results or exact scores.

To avoid reducing your chances of winning Premier Soccer League bets and increase your long-term success, concentrate on classic bets.

3. Adjust your Premier Soccer League bet according to team line-ups

Another tip to take into account for your Premier Soccer League prediction: follow team line-ups carefully. They are made public an hour before kick-off, and can have a huge impact on a bet.

Imagine if a team's starting goalkeeper were to get injured in the warm-up, as well as its star striker. This will inevitably have an effect on the result to be expected in the match, and therefore the chances of winning your bet.

Today, many bookmakers allow you to cancel a bet a few minutes after it has been placed, or even to recover a large part of the amount committed via cash out. It is therefore possible to reduce the risk of loss by consulting the line-ups for each Premier Soccer League match.

Our opinion on the difficulty of PSL betting

Predicting PSL (Premier Soccer League) matches involves a systematic approach that combines thorough research, careful analysis, and an understanding of football dynamics. By gathering data on teams, players, recent form, injuries, and historical performance, one can assess factors such as team motivation, home and away performances, tactical strategies, and player availability. Evaluating trends in past head-to-head matchups, considering betting odds and market trends, and acknowledging the element of unpredictability are all essential components.

And last but certainly not least, you can always turn to Wincomparator's experts for in-depth analysis and prediction to give you an extra edge.
