Sixth placed Wolverhampton Wanderers will hope to stay ahead of the competition in the race for Europa League spots and perhaps still a place in the Champions League. They welcome 11th placed Everton to the Molineux Stadium.
A 1-0 loss to Sheffield United with a late conceded goal meant the Wolves have now lost two games in a row. They haven’t lost three in a row since November 2018, while the last time they went three consecutive league games without scoring was in April 2012. That said, there is optimism in the camp, as the Wolves are unbeaten in 16 of their last 18 matches against teams from the bottom half. Wolves remain a strong second-half side with 33 of their 45 goals scored during the second half. Furthermore, 17 of those goals have come beyond the 70th minute which means a late goal is on the cards. Their Champions League hopes have been hit by the two defeats and they now trail fourth place by seven points and are now six behind fifth placed Manchester United so a win here is very important.
Everton travel here on the back of a 1-1 draw against Southampton making it just two wins in their last eight league games. It's not been an easy fixture list with games against four of the current top five. Only one of the last five has been lost though, including earning four points against Liverpool and Leicester. However, both of those games were at Goodison Park and away form is nowhere near as good. Everton have lost ten of their 17 away league matches and could lose 11 Premier League away matches for the first time since 2003-04. Tthey have lost three of their last four matches, winning just once. Defensive struggles remain a major concern, as Everton have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five away matches. The only clean sheet kept in their last 16 away league games was in the recent 1-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Norwich City..
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Champions League qualification ambitions were left high and dry by consecutive losses. The hosts are now looking to avoid losing both the matches of a league season to Everton, for the first time since 1976. Ancelotti’s Everton have been in an equally poor form which should give Wolves hope of getting back into winning ways. We are backing Wolves to do the job here and pick up full points. Some other crucial picks lie in the scoring market with Everton scoring first in play here.
