Wolfsburg are finding their footing again in the German Bundesliga and when they host Borussia Dortmund on Match Day 13, they will be going for three points. Ahead of this game, Wolfsburg are sixth in the league standings with 20 points and Dortmund second with 27 points. Both sides are coming from disappointing losses in the Champions League and will be looking to bounce back. Wolfsburg were 2-0 losers to Sevilla in Spain but back at home, they’ve had a good run in the last three matches in the Bundesliga, winning two and drawing one. This is the run they will want to extend, even though they are winless in the last 12 meetings with Dortmund. The last time they beat Dortmund was in the German Cup, back in 2015. It remains their only win in 17 matches against Dortmund. They have one win in the last four home league matches and that was against struggling Augsburg. A lot of improvement will be needed for them to bring down this Dortmund side.
Borussia Dortmund are just a point below Bayern Munich ahead of this game and they should be gunning for three points, which could take them top. They had another dismal showing in the Champions League, losing 3-1 to Sporting Lisbon. A quick response will be key to their stability going forward, especially now that they are set to miss Erling Haaland for a long time. It hasn’t been easy in the Champions League, but at home in the Bundesliga, Dortmund are doing well. They go to this game with just two losses in the last 10 league matches, the remaining eight being wins. This, and the fact that they’ve dominated matches against Wolfsburg should build up their confidence after the loss in Portugal. While they have just one clean sheet in the 10 league matches, they’ve scored two or more goals in their eight wins. Away from home in the league though, Dortmund have suffered three losses in the last five.
Borussia Dortmund have a good run in the league, and have done well against Wolfsburg in their recent matches. While they have been shaky away from home in the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg haven’t had the best of runs at home going into this game. In Dortmund’s recent league run, we will back them to win here.
