It has been an amazing season for West Ham United and they can make it even better by finishing in the top four. In their remaining matches, that’s what they’ll be playing for. They host fellow top four contenders Everton in their next match, both sides targeting three points to further those ambitions. Going to this game, West Ham are fifth, with 58 points, three below the top four, while Everton are eighth with 52 points. West Ham are coming from an impressive 2-1 win over Burnley having come from a goal down in the clash. Michail Antonio scored a brace in the game and in his return to fitness he will be a key man in the Hammers’ squad. With Everton being four points behind West Ham and with a game in hand, the Hammers’ push for a top four slot will be really boosted with a win. A big concern for West Ham going to this game will be their defensive performance, having failed to keep a clean sheet in the last six league matches. Their attack has however been one of the best in recent weeks, having scored two or more goals in five of the last six matches. They will hope for an improvement on the 1-0 loss to Chelsea in their last home game but that remains their only home defeat in the last six home matches. The Hammers have four wins in the six matches.
Everton on the other hand, haven’t won many of their recent matches; in the last eight matches across all competitions, they have one win. They have a game in hand in the league and being six points outside the top four means this is a key game for the Toffees. They’ve lost four of their last eight matches and have two clean sheets in the process. They are coming from a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at home, and will be glad to be heading away, having had a better performance on the road. In the last 12 away matches in the league, they have one loss, and have seven wins in the last 10. Four clean sheets in the last five away league matches also signal good times in their travels. In 16 away matches in the league this season, Everton have 10 wins and just three losses.
Everton are strong when playing away and they have an edge over other teams in midfield. West Ham United have considerably been weakened by Declan Rice’s absence in midfield, though they are great in attack. Michail Antonio’s return further strengthens West Ham’s attack and a draw is a good pick here.
