West Ham United will look to keep in touch with the Premier League top-five when they host the bottom-half side Burnley at their London Stadium. West Ham are 10th in the standings with 26 points from 17 matches. They are only three points away from the top-five although Tottenham’s match against Fulham could make it six. Burnley are 16th in the standings with 16 points from 16 matches. They are only five points above the relegation zone ahead of Fulham’s match against Tottenham.
West Ham come into this match on the back of a 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park. That win keeps the Hammers unbeaten in three matches – winning one and drawing the other two. Defence played a significant part in West Ham’s season so far with the Hammers conceding just 21 goals. That is the joint-sixth best defensive record. However, the Hammers are looking to improve their home record having failed to win their last three league matches at this venue, drawing two and losing one.
Burnley are coming off a 1-0 loss to Manchester United where the Clarets were guilty of not pushing forward as often as they should have. That loss, however, was just their second in the last seven league matches. This sequence saw them win three and draw two to keep their surge away from the relegation zone. Still of concern, though, is their scoring record which is the joint-worst of the division with just nine goals scored. On the road, Burnley have struggled for results with four losses in their eight Premier League away matches, drawing three and winning just once.
