West Brom widened their advantage at the top of the Championship to six points with a narrow 2-1 win away at Reading on Wednesday evening. Slaven Bilic’s men came from behind to win the game six points clear of Leeds in 2nd and Fulham in 3rd with both those sides dropping points in midweek. As for Nottingham Forest they have been cranking up the heat on the top two in recent weeks but a disappointing defeat to Charlton 1-0 in the week has them looking over their shoulder with Bristol City just one point behind them and threatening to take their play-off place.
Just three points separate 2nd from 7th in the Championship but West Brom have some breathing space after a third straight victory. They hadn’t won a league game in seven and they looked to be throwing away their heavy lead at the summit but West Brom have regrouped and look poised to return to the Premier League. However, they have picked up 35 points on the road compared to 27 at home and it’s their home form that is threatening to derail their promotion push. A win versus Luton at the start of the month ended a four-game winless run at the Hawthorns and was the start of a three-game winning run which they are currently on so they will be hoping that continues this weekend.
Sabri Lamouchi’s Forest side though will come here and provide stern opposition. They have taken 20 points from their last 30 available which is seven more than West Brom have managed in that time and they have lost just three of their 16 away matches in the league this season. An important win over Leeds has been overshadowed by losses either side of that victory and Forest will need to return to winning ways with sides lining up to take their place in the top-six. The Championship is a cut-throat league and momentum is vital so they will be hoping to come here and better a draw which they got here last year although one point wouldn’t be a calamity.
Two teams who will desperately want all three points will collided here and that could make for entertaining viewing. Both teams know where the net is and I’m confident both will find it in this match. Back both teams to score.
