West Bromwich Albion and Hull City are at opposite ends of the Championship table ahead of their match at The Hawthorns on Sunday. The hosts start this round in second place with 74 points and just one point behind leaders Leeds, while the visitors are 19th in the table with 46 points and three above the relegation zone.
A comprehensive 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday helped West Brom close to within a point from Leeds United at the top of the table and move five points ahead of third-placed Brentford. That win was Slaven Bilic side’s first win in five games, drawing and losing two each and with no goals in the last four. With only 38 goals conceded, the Baggies have one of the best defensive records of the division. Additionally, they have the second-best scoring record with 67 goals to their credit. However, West Brom’s home form has been patchy with just two wins in their last nine home Championship games, drawing four and losing three.
Hull moved out of the drop zone as Mallik Wilks’ stoppage-time goal gave them a dramatic 2-1 win over relegation rivals Middlesbrough on Thursday evening. That win was Hull’s first in the Championship since New Year’s Day and ended a winless run of 14 games in all competitions. The Tigers still have a lot to do to overcome relegation fears, as the fight at the bottom is very tight. Only three points separate teams from 18th to 22nd as the relegation battle promises to go down the wire. The situation has been complicated further by Wigan going into administration. They will be deducted 12 points at the end of the season if finishing outside the bottom three. At the time of writing, they are in great fom and up to 14th but only seven above the relegation zone and -12 points at this stage would see them drop to the bottom of the Championship, thus improving Hull's chances of survival. The visitors may even start this match in the drop zone, if other sides below them win at the weekend.. Furthermore, Hull’s recent away form has been poor with four losses and two draws in their last six Championship away matches.
West Bromwich Albion got their title charge back on track with a win over Wednesday, though finishing in the top two and automatically being promoted to the Premier League is their main aim. With Leeds United not known to finish their season strongly, even the Championship title could be within reach provided they keep winning. Hull City are also coming off a win, but have been in very poor form otherwise. The hosts look primed for another win, which at odds of 1.33 doesn't provide much value.
