Despite having played two games more Watford will feel their 10-point cushion above the play-off places will be enough to see them return to the top-flight at the first time of asking. The Hornets were relegated from the Premier League last year but find themselves in second place on 79 points in the Championship after 40 games with Brentford back in third on 69 with two games in hand. They welcome Reading to Vicarage Road on Friday night with the visitors just one point inside the play-off places ahead of Bournemouth following a 3-1 win over Derby at the weekend.
Watford had won six league matches in a row prior to their 1-1 draw away at Middlesbrough at the weekend. That run has moved Xisco Munoz’s men into a comfortable position for automatic promotion and with just one defeat in 13 they look destined for an immediate return to the Premier League alongside Norwich who are five points ahead of them in top spot. Watford will look to continue their great home form having won six straight matches when hosting and they have kept a clean sheet in five of those fixtures.
Reading will be searching for just their second win in six on the road when they travel to Vicarage Road on Friday. The Royals picked up three points on Easter Monday at home to Derby but a 1-1 draw at Barnsley last Friday means they are without a win in three on their travels. With Bournemouth breathing down their necks, Reading will need to keep the wins coming and they will take confidence from the reverse fixture which seen them walk away as 1-0 winners.
