The pick of matchweek three in the English Championship sees two of last season’s relegated Premier League sides face off when Watford hosts Burnley at Vicarage Road. Both sides have had a fairly promising start to the new season, each picking up a draw and a win in the first two matches. The oddsmakers have these two teams as the frontrunners to lift the Championship crown come the end of the season. Watford are the current betting favorites with odds of 11/2 to finish top while Burnley are not far behind with odds of 13/2. The Hornets kicked off their season with a 1-0 home win over Sheffield before a slightly fortunate 1-1 draw against West Brom in their most recent fixture. The visiting Clarets also began the 2022/23 campaign with three points after a 1-0 away win against Huddersfield before drawing 1-1 at home against Luton Town in their last outing.
Burnley, under the management of Vincent Kompany, have been undergoing somewhat of a summer revolution. This is their first season in the second-flight of English football in six years, first time in 10 years with a new manager since the departure of club legend Sean Dyche, and have seen the recruitment of 10 new faces joining the club while cashing in on three of their established talents. For all the change that has been taking place around the club, the Burnley players have gone out and delivered solid performances. Vincent Kompany has a clear vision for how he wants his side to play and we’ve seen early signs of that system. On the other side, Watford sport what is likely the best attacking trio in the division with three Premier League quality talents in Ismaila Sarr, Emmanuel Dennis and Joao Pedro. However, it remains to be seen if the former two will remain with the Hornets for the entire campaign as the transfer rumors continue to swirl. With the three on the field, Watford can never be ruled out to score a few goals.
