After a 1-0 victory at Espanyol, Villarreal return to their Estadio de la Cerámica where they are set to play Deportivo Alaves in the eighth round of the Spanish la Liga. Villarreal are seventh in the league standings, where they sit with two points keeping them apart from Alaves, who are twelfth. Karl Toko Ekambi's lone strike proved the decider when the hosts visitored Espanyol last weekend, a victory that was preceded by three wins, and two losses.
The Yellow Submarine host Alaves against the backdrop of a great record that has seen them not lose any of their last six home matches. In addition, Villarreal have maintained clean sheets in three of their last six home games.
Meanwhile, Alaves travel to Espanyol buoyed by a 2-0 victory at home to Celta de Vigo. The win was secured by Lisandro Magallan and Lucas Perez. The win came after Alaves had lost four of five previous games in all tournaments. Alaves' record on the road is also unsatisfactory as they only have won once in six travelling games, during which time they only maintained one clean sheet. However, for coach Abelardo Fernández Antuña, it is encouraging to work with the knoweledge that his team has won all but one of their six matches against Villarreal in the past three seasons.
While Alaves have in the past maintained authority over Villarreal, they will find this match challenging because the hosts are in much better form. Villarreal will have a home advantage in this match that we see them exploiting for victories in both halves.
