Union Berlin are enjoying a fine second season in the Bundesliga this year but after back-to-back defeats, it has somewhat soured. Nonetheless, the capital club remains in 8th and could climb above their guests with a win in this one. Borussia Monchengladbach head to Berlin off the back of four wins in five in the Bundesliga. A win over Bayern Munich earlier this month was followed by another huge victory at home to Borussia Dortmund last weekend and Marco Rose’s men now find themselves in 5th just one point off the Champions League places.
Union Berlin competed in the Bundesliga for the very first time last season and were tipped by many to go down in last place. They proved their doubters wrong and sauntered to safety by finishing 11th with 41 points. This season they again have silenced their critics and have made a charge for Europe. Union were 4th just a couple of weeks but after an apparent dip in form they now lie 8th after narrow defeats to Augsburg (2-1) and Leipzig (1-0). At home, though they haven’t lost since the opening day of the season and have won two of their last three games when hosting in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Monchengladbach are amongst it as the most in-form side in the league at present. Their 13 points total from their last five games can only be matched by Eintracht Frankfurt and their uplift in form has seen them climb into the European places with the hope of reaching the top four. Gladbach will compete against Manchester City in the last-16 of the Champions League next month after a successful group campaign and they will be looking to qualify for the second consecutive season. A win here could be crucial in a jam-packed top-half of the Bundesliga with just five points separating 3rd from 9th.
