Ukraine will host Lithuania in the return leg of their UEFA Euro Championship qualifiers at the OSC Metalist in Kharkiv on Friday evening. The Ukrainians are presently placed at the top of Group B after four wins and one draw. Ukraine have won all but one of their qualifying matches, with the barrne draw against Portugal on opening day being their only blot.
Meanwhile, Lithuania have only won once in five matches and sit at the bottom of the table standings. This match, therefore, becomes akin to a David vs Goliath encounter as the weakest team in the group takes on the strongest.
Led by former Chelsea striker Andriy Mykolayovych Schevchenko, Ukraine have fielded 11 goals in the group stage so far and conceded just once. Additionally, the Main Team has only lost once in their last 17 games and have won four times in their last six matches, twice settling for draws. Similarly, Ukraine have scored at least two goals in four of their last five matches and maintained cleansheets in four of six matches.
In contrast, opponents Lithuania have conceded 15 goals and only netted four. Valdas Urbonas' team has only won twice in 29 games, during which time they have failed to score in 11 of 17 away games.
And when it comes to head to head ecounters, Ukraine have beaten Lithuania three times in five matches of which the latter won once.
With a home advantage, and a great all round and head to head record, Ukraine are best poised to win this match. Goals will also be scored and we see at least four in total by the end of regulation time.
