Australia had a good start to their game against France with Craig Goodwin scoring for them after just nine minutes facing the world champions. However, things turned around after 18 minutes and it ended in a 4-1 loss for the Socceroos. That defeat ended their five-game unbeaten run and also brought to a halt their run of three straight clean sheets. It further left the Australia national team winless in their last seven World Cup matches, six of them ending in losses. Against Tunisia, Australia have their likeliest chance to bag three points from this group, looking at the strength of teams in this pool and they will want to make this count. The one positive they carry to the game is that they’ve failed to score in just one of the last five matches. In half of their last 10 matches, Australia have scored two or more goals and they’ve conceded two or more in three of the 10 matches. In their last five competitive matches, Australia have managed just one outright win, and one on post match penalties, the other three ended in losses.

Australia are coming from a heavy loss to France and will feel this is a game they can extract a win from. Tunisia will feel the same way about this game and following their solid performance against a much stronger Denmark, they will go into the game as favorites. In competitive action, Tunisia have done better than Australia and they are also stronger defensively.
