Liverpool's hold on the Premier League trophy has loosened significantly in the past few weeks. They are down to fourth and will slip lower if losing at fifth placed Tottenham. Liverpool go into this set of games seven points behind league leaders Manchester United (who they have twice failed to beat in the past week or so). By the time this game begins, that gap could be ten points if United get their expected win against Sheffield United earlier in the week. Liverpool have failed to win in their last five league matches and not even scored in the last four. A form guide for the past five league games has them down in 17th place and they need to start winning games soon or the title will be gone. Away form has been poor this season, with only two wins from nine, they have only the 13th best away record in the Premier League. Surely a side with the striking power they have will soon be scoring plenty of goals again. Mo Salah scoring twice at Old Trafford on Sunday was a boost.
Tottenham are one place behind the final Champions League place currently held by Liverpool. They are only a point behind and have a game in hand, so a win here would be massive for them. They had a bad patch last month and that included losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield. Form has picked up now and they are unbeaten in their last four league games with a couple of wins and two draws. Harry Kane is back in form too and has scored in each of their last three league matches. Home form for Tottenham could be better though with only four wins in the Premier League this season. Three times they have led in the second half of home games and not won the game, very costly indeed in a tight tussle at the top. A bet on both teams to score is the suggested wage for this match.
