Teutonia face off against RB Leipzig for the DFB Pokal’s first round at the Red Bull Arena. The game was due to take place three weeks ago along with all the other games of the round, yet was forced to be postponed due to Leipzig’s involvement at the German Super Cup final. Teutonia will certainly rejoice the affair with a top German side, being currently in the fourth division of the German football pyramid. They have also come into this encounter on form, with two consecutive wins, and are currently eleventh in the standings with seven points taken from their first five games. In fixtures where they played host, they have lost just two of their last ten, scoring at least two goals in nine of them. Just like most lower division German teams, they are entertaining and front-foot with no urgent attention to defensive duties. It is indicative that their last three home games have seen sixteen goals, while seven of their last nine have seen both teams score.
Tedesco’s Leipzig managed to get their first Bundesliga win in the fourth attempt, managing to overcome Wolfsburg and take a much-needed 2-0 victory. It has looked rather bleak for Leipzig in recent games. They drew the first two and lost one of their first three league games, while they have conceded in eight of their last ten competitive games. They do enter the tournament as last year’s winners though, and given how it was the team’s first trophy since their recent founding, they will surely give their all to retain it. Their record at the Cup is also positive, having scored seven goals and conceding two in their last three DFB Pokal games.
