Switzerland v Cameroon Betting Tips [24 November 2022]

Switzerland are set to give it another go in a major competition when they come face to face with African giants Cameroon in a Group G clash in Al Wakrah at the Al Janoub Stadium. This will be the fifth straight time the Swiss take part in a FIFA World Cup, while Cameroon returns after missing the 2018 edition, which was held in Russia. Switzerland are coming from a 2-0 loss to Ghana in their warm up game before the competition, and they will want to take the lessons picked in that game to improve on the performance going into this one. That loss was their second in the last five matches and also the second time in that run that they failed to score. The Swiss have managed just one clean sheet in their last five matches, a 1-0 win over Portugal and though they lost in their last game, they will still be favorites here. Switzerland have registered three wins in the last five matches and these have been against top nations – Czech Republic, Spain and Portugal. Both teams have scored in two of their last three matches, with Breel Embolo netting twice for Switzerland in the last three games. At the World Cup, the Swiss haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last five matches but they have only conceded more than a goal once in that period. They have only managed one win in their last five World Cup matches.

Cameroon do not have a very strong run coming into this game. They were among the few teams that played two warm up games before this competition and they will be looking to improve on their performance not just in those two matches, but in the last four. The five-time African champions have failed to win any of their last four matches. In their two friendly matches in November, Cameroon drew 1-1 with Jamaica, then most recently with Panama. They have no clean sheet in their last four matches, and have managed just one in eight. Both teams have scored in three of Cameroon’s last six matches, and they will be pressed to do better this time after a shambolic performance in their last World Cup appearance, in 2014. Back then, they lost all their group games, conceding nine times in three matches. That was just a continuation of their poor run at the World Cup; Cameroon have lost each of their last seven World Cup matches. Their only win in the last 16 World Cup matches was against Saudi Arabia in 2002. Cameroon will feel they are in a better shape here than in the last few years, and Eric Choupo-Moting’s good form coming to this competition should give them confidence.

Switzerland have three wins in their last four matches and these have been against top sides. Though they are coming from a loss to Ghana in their last game, they will be favorites here. The one area the Swiss will be worried about is their defence and with Cameroon set to field Choupo-Moting along with Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubacar, keeping a clean sheet will be a tall order. Back Switzerland to win, but both teams to score.
