With the top two both losing in midweek the Championship table has become congested with just four points separating 1st and 10th in the division. Swansea find themselves in the middle of that pack with 26 points just outside the play-offs on goal difference after a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough left them in 7th place. As for Luton they are flying high in 11th with 22 points to their name after ending a four-game winless run at home to the league-leaders Norwich City on Wednesday night.
Swansea earned a hard-fought one-nil win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last weekend but did fall to Middlesbrough in midweek. However, they return to action at home unbeaten in four at the Liberty Stadium and were on a three-game winning run when hosting until a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the end of November. The Swans have lost just one of their seven home matches this season and scoring first has been crucial to them winning as they have done so in each of their four victories at home so far in this campaign.
Luton pulled off an upset as they thwarted Norwich’s promotion charge with a 3-1 win over the Canaries and as a result picked up their first win since the 4th of November. Luton’s three wins on the road this term have all ended 1-0 but they were beaten by Cardiff City last weekend and they have suffered defeat at Millwall and Watford who both sit in the top half. With Swansea’s ability to score first that could prove detrimental as each of Luton’s three winners have arrive beyond the 70th minute.
