Thomas Hitzlsperger’s Stuttgart will be aiming for a third straight victory this weekend when they welcome an ailing Osnabrück to the Mercedes-Benz Arena this weekend. Stuttgart are in the driving seat in terms of promotion and are currently second thanks in large part to their thrilling 3-2 win over Hamburg after being two goals down. They are on 51 points which is two clear of Hamburg in the play-off place while their guests are 14th on 34 points and in danger of falling further.
VFB have fate in their own hands and with four of their remaining five games against sides in the bottom half of the table, including this one, you would be backing them to go up. Stuttgart boast the most impressive record in the league accumulating 34 points from a possible 42 and have only been beaten twice on home soil this term. They have won seven of their last eight games whilst playing at home scoring 21 goals and an average of 3.25 goals have been scored at either end in those fixtures.
As for the visitors they need a short burst of form just to get them over the line with Nurnberg and Karlsruher just over their shoulder. Their indifferent record since returning to action (1W, 2D, 1L) hasn’t been enough to bring them to safety although they aren’t in any immediate danger. However, after this weekend and with a game they are expected to lose things may be a lot worse. Osnabrück have just one win in 12 but five draws in that run is what is keeping their head just above water.
I fancy Stuttgart to continue their rich vein of form here especially given their superior home record. I’m also expecting goals in this one considering recent results so I’m tipping a home win and over 2.5 goals in this match.
