Southampton v Tottenham Betting Tips [20 September 2020]

It’s a battle between two teams looking to come out of their losing start to the Premier League season, as Southampton host Tottenham Hotspur to St. Mary’s Stadium in the second match of the season this weekend. Southampton had high hopes of starting the season on a high after finishing the previous campaign on a high. The loss to Palace was the Saints’ first in their last eight league matches – winning four and drawing three. Southampton were one of the best travelling sides of the league last season, but their home record isn’t bad either. Southampton are unbeaten in three league home matches – winning two and drawing one. They scored in eight of their last ten Premier League home fixtures which means they should target some goals in this fixture. History is, however, against Southampton who have won only once in their last 21 first home match of a Premier League campaign – drawing and losing ten each.

Tottenham were minutes away from crashing out of the Europa League but a Harry Kane penalty and Tanguy Ndombele’s winner five minutes from regular time made sure that they overcame minnows Plovdiv. They also need to override the recent losing streak – Spurs lost their last two league away matches against Southampton. However, Jose Mourinho will be looking to cash in on the excitement around Gareth Bale’s arrival. Spurs will have to improve their indifferent away form, though, as they have won only one of their last six Premier League road trips – drawing three and losing two.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost to Southampton in their last Premier League match, but haven’t lost twice in a row since March 2004 – when they lost three in a row. Additionally, they haven’t started a Premier League season with back-to-back losses since the 2011-12 season. Thankfully, Spurs are unbeaten in their last four first away game of the league seasons – winning and drawing two each. It remains to be seen if Spurs will unleash Gareth Bale, as it is not yet known if he will be registered on time. We are backing this match to produce goals.
