Southampton v Burnley Betting Tips [15 February 2020]

Southampton and Burnley meet in round #26 of the English Premier League with nothing much to separate them. They have identical record in matches won, drawn and lost. Southampton start this round in 13th spot with 31 points, while Burnley are 11th with the same number of points.

Southampton’s revival was stopped in the last three matches, where they have lost two. However, there is nothing much to worry about, considering they came up against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Otherwise, Southampton have picked up 16 of their 31 season points from their last eight league games. Regardless, Southampton remain one of the defensively weaker sides, having conceded 46 goals. That is the third-worst defensive record of the season, but they have been improving in the previous rounds. The biggest concern, though, is their home form where Southampton have picked up just 11 points which is the worst among all sides. That said, the ‘Saints’ have picked up ten of those points in their last six home matches and should be confident of their chances.

Burnley travel here with an improved form as well, having picked up seven points in their last three matches. That included wins against Leicester City and Manchester United, followed by a draw against Arsenal. The ‘Clarets’ are still aiming for 40 points, but look much better to finish in the top-half. They haven’t been scoring well, but have been scoring important goals. With 28 goals, Burnley have the joint-worst record among the top-11 sides. Playing away from home, they have won three of their last six matches – all important ones at Watford, Bournemouth and United. However, Burnley’s away form hasn’t been great. They have lost five of their last eight and have been managed just three clean sheets – all coming in their wins.

Southampton were looking to have lost a bit of steam in the recent matches and the winter break has come at the right time for them. Burnley had a longer time to prepare for this match, but the visitors will hope that the extra time hasn’t worked to their detriment. Burnley have usually struggled on the road and this could once again be the case here.
