The match

Norway (second, three points) will look to repeat their H2H performance from the 2003 World Cup, when they take on South Korea (fourth, zero points) in their final Group A match of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Norway needed a win that time over Korea and they managed a big one, ensuring their passage to the knockouts. This time too, Norway need to beat Korea to stay ahead of Nigeria and qualify for the last-16. Of course, on paper they remain on course to do just that. A narrow 2-1 loss to France aside, the 3-0 win over Nigeria showed that the Norwegians remain one of the sides to look out for. Their recent form has been impressive too, with five wins in their last seven matches in all competitions including friendlies. South Korea are at the bottom of the table with two straight losses. A 4-0 loss to France and 2-0 loss to Nigeria meant that the Koreans are bottom of the table. The vagaries of the group are such that a mammoth win can still help Korea qualify, although that remains out of the equation. Their poor record in the World Cups is pretty poor, with seven losses in nine matches so far. Furthermore, six of those losses have come with no goals from Korea.

Key Statistics

  • The only previous H2H match was won 7-1 by Norway in the 2003 World Cup.
  • South Korea have lost seven of their nine World Cup matches (W1, D1, L7).
  • Norway have not drawn any of their last 28 matches including friendlies (W16, L12), with their last draw coming in July 2017.

The bet of our experts

Norway have looked impressive in the group matches so far, and even their loss to France has been by a narrow margin. Thankfully for them, Nigeria play France simultaneously and with the Africans starting that match as outsiders, Norway can look forward to blank South Korea and book their final-16 spot comfortably.
