The top four in the Primeira Liga find themselves in the semi-finals of the League Cup and this tie pits 4th place Braga against Benfica who are third. The tie will be played at a neutral venue in Leiria as these two teams look to make it to the showpiece. Both Braga and Benfica are still fighting for the Taca de Portugal after wins in that competition last week but perhaps only Benfica have a realistic chance at the title out of the two, with Braga nine points off the current leaders Sporting Lisbon.
Plenty of silverware on offer for both and for Braga they will be hoping to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat in the Primeira Liga on Saturday night. That loss halted a two-game winning run that they had put together following a 2-0 loss away to Sporting Lisbon at the start of January. However, Braga have only lost four times since September and have won nine of their last 12 matches. Braga were also victorious when they met Benfica in Lisbon on the 8th of November, leaving the capital with all three points in a 3-2 win.
Benfica will be looking to avenge that defeat and they come into this game off the back of a 1-1 draw with title rivals Porto as the big three of Portugal look set to battle it out for yet another Primeira Liga title. Benfica have a viable chance at all three trophies on offer and a potential final with Sporting or Porto lies in wait if they can get past Braga. Their opponents however have won each of the last two meetings and Benfica have won just one of their last four games away from home and that was a Taca de Portugal win against lower-league Estrela.
